On Feb. 24, 2018, at around 3 a.m., UC San Diego student Andres Perkins, 21, was struck and killed by a driver on southbound Interstate 5, about a mile away from Lindbergh Field.
The driver fled the scene, leaving Perkins in the roadway. A few days later, the hit-and-run suspect was arrested.
Perkins was studying neuroscience at UC San Diego and planned to attend medical school after graduation. He had dreams of one day becoming a doctor. His family said he was a kind and intelligent young man with a passion for helping others. He loved nature, hiking and swimming.
These are photos of Perkins, provided by his family, of his short but happy life.
