On July 16, 2019, a group of about 30 people – including parents and students – walked several miles to San Ysidro High School in south San Diego County to peacefully protest cuts to school bus routes. The Sweetwater Union High School District said cutting those school bus routes is necessary for budgetary reasons. NBC 7 and Telemundo 20 followed the demonstrators on their march; many parents and students said they were upset and disappointed. At one point, a group of parents kneeled in front of the entrance to the campus, begging school officials not to cancel the bus routes.
