February 2009: Yosemite Park in the Winter

Sure the waterfalls aren't at their peak but there's something to be said about visiting one of our most popular national parks at a time when no one else is around.

Sure the waterfalls aren't at their peak but there's something to be said about visiting one of our most popular national parks at a time when no one else is around.

Bridalveil Falls as seen through the trees. The walk up to the vista point was iced over but we ran into one group of guys who were sliding down the trail as if they were on skateboards.

According to park staff, it's rare to see snow stick in Yosemite Valley much less paint the branches of the trees so beautifully.

Almost a ghost town in mid-February but not quite. This is the main entrance to the Ahwahnee Hotel.

Our stop at the Lower Yosemite Falls was the highlight of the trip. We arrived at the bridge at the base of the falls and no one else was around.

The fresh snow lay on top of the rocks and streams - making some of the stone look like they had muffin tops of white icing.
