Weekend Events: Nov. 9-11

Celebrate the end of a long election season with beer, ballet or a Battle on the Midway. Here’s what to do this weekend in America’s Finest City.

Friday, Nov. 9

City Ballet presents “Emerald Jubilee”

2 p.m. at Spreckels Theater
Get a healthy dose of culture by attending the City Ballet of San Diego’s performance that features glittering costumes and dedicated dancers. The 18th century romantic show will certainly inspire you to pirouette after the show. Tickets start at $29.

Kettner Nights
6-9 p.m. in Little Italy
Enjoy art whilst eating some of Little Italy’s finest gelato during the semimonthly event. Kettner Nights aims to showcase some of the best artists and designers in the eclectic neighborhood. And if you happen to wander into a delicious eatery while viewing some sculptures, so be it.

Seasons of the Heart
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Del Mar Fairgrounds
Get ready for the holiday season at the 23rd annual Seasons of the Heart craft fair. Holiday decorations, gifts and artwork will be for sale at the free event. It's widely known as the place to get intricate ornaments, so don't be a Grinch and check it out Friday through Sunday.

Saturday, Nov. 10

Dwell Home Tours
5:30-8:30 p.m. at MCASD La Jolla
Who knew San Diego was a hub for architectural marvels? The uber-trendy Dwell magazine is recognizing the city’s modern architecture with a self-guided tour of inspiring homes. Plus there’s an architect cocktail reception for the design geeks at the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla.

Head to Toe Women's Expo
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Del Mar Fairgrounds
Stylish San Diego ladies will want to trot to Del Mar for this luxurious event. The expo highlights local boutiques and regional exhibitors that focus on women's fashions. Tickets start at $8.

Ray at Night
6-10 p.m. on Ray Street
Check out the monthly art walk in San Diego’s hippest ‘hood. Storefronts will exhibit collections of exquisite art by local and nationally-known artists. While you’re strolling around, check out some of the 15 galleries that participate as many of them offer classes or educational outreaches.

Sunday, Nov. 11

Silver Strand Challenge
7 a.m. at Sunset Park in Coronado
The 5th annual Silver Strand Challenge gives runners the opportunity to raise money for San Diegans with spinal cord injuries. The 5k and half-marathon will attract more than 5,000 people – some of which skate or hand-cycle their way to the finish line. Run yourself, or watch the legion of participants from the sandy shores of Coronado.

Battle on the Midway
1 p.m. aboard USS Midway
Who doesn’t want to see basketball played on a ship, especially when one of the teams competing is the locally-loved San Diego State University Aztecs? The team will face off against Syracuse University men’s basketball team for the Battle on the Midway. Hopefully the players will stay aboard, but you never know, an intense block could leave the ball afloat.

Beer Week

The final day of Beer Week has plenty of places tapping casks throughout the city. Green Flash Brewing Co. is hosting 10 Years of Great Beers, while Ballast Point has a growler event. You know it’ll be good beer as both breweries recently won an award at the Brussels Beer Challenge.
