Weekend Events for March 8-10

From 5Ks to wine tasting, you have lots of options Friday, Saturday and Sunday

This weekend has plenty of opportunity for charitable giving, as a variety of events benefit nonprofit organizations.

Friday, March 8

The Mountaintop
8 p.m. at San Diego Repertory Theater
This intimate drama portrays what it might have been like on the last night of Dr. Martin Luther King’s life. Tickets start at $31.

Festa Della Donna
11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 505 Laurel St.

Cucina Urbana is honoring the ladies for International Women’s Day by offering a special menu. All proceeds from the days’ sales will benefit Center for Community Solutions, a local non-profit organization that provides emergency domestic violence shelters.

Giselle
8 p.m. at Spreckels Theater

The City Ballet presents its annual production of Giselle, a story about a young girl in 19th century Paris. Tickets start at $29.

Saturday, March 9

St. Baldrick's Shave-a-Thon
noon to 4 p.m. at 901 4th Ave.

Downtown bar The Commons is hosting the 5th annual St. Baldrick’s  charity event that raises money for cancer research. Dozens of people will shave their heads in solidarity with children undergoing chemotherapy.

Food Truck Festival
noon to 6 p.m. at Bates Nut Farm

Dine at a variety of different food trucks at this tasty event. Aside from scrumptious food, there's also hayrides, a rock wall and face painting for kids. Admission is free.

Undy 5000
8 a.m. at Mission Bay Park

Run or walk in your underwear for a good cause this weekend at the Undy 5000. Proceeds will go toward the Colon Cancer Alliance fund.

Battle for the Troops
11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 2320 Truxton Rd.

Sit arena-side at Rock Church this weekend when they hold professional boxing matches featuring MMA fighters. Tickets start at $10 and proceeds benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, which aids service members injured in battle.

Corned Beef Festival
11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 6041 Mission Gorge Rd.

Meat lovers will enjoy this foodie event at Iowa Meat Farms featuring tips on how to prepare a delicious Irish meal.

Sunday, March 10

San Diego Half Marathon
7:15 a.m. in the Gaslamp District
Watch hundreds of runners compete in the 2nd annual San Diego Half Marathon. The course goes through downtown and finishes in the Gaslamp District, where there’s a block party after the event.

Family Winemakers of California Tasting

3 to 6 p.m. at Del Mar Fairgrounds
Try some of California's best wine at this special tasting. Tickets are $70 at the door.

Latino Film Festival

See various films between March 7 and March 17 for the 20th anniversary of one of San Diego's biggest film festivals. Highlights include local celebrity appearances and the top 10 groundbreaking films from the last 10 years.

Thursday Club Rummage Sale
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Balboa Club Activity Center

Find treasures galore at the annual rummage sale held by the Thursday Club. Used, new and antique items will be sold with all proceeds benefiting the local community.
