Centered by a decorative and tall (more than 6') painted clay tree of life, ¡VIVA MÉXICO! is slated to open at the Mingei International Museum next month.

The exhibit uses 105 objects on loan from Mexico. The folk art helps visitors follow key events in Mexico's history. Among them, a set of glazed plates created in 1985 for the 175th anniversary of independence.

The themes of the exhibit - Search for Identity, Religion and Festivity and Daily Life -- can be experienced through grouped items including pottery, skeletons, masks and Trees of Life.

The exhibit will be on display until Jan. 2, 2011.

Located at 1439 El Prado in Balboa Park, Mingei International Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday,10 a.m.– 4 p.m., and closed on Mondays and national holidays.
