Summer's a-comin' and so is a fully loaded Viejas Concerts in the Park.
Viejas Casino & Resort announced this week that it will host 11 outside concerts featuring '70s and '80s rock legends like Eddie Money, Three Dog Night, Loverboy, Little River Band and Peter Cetera.
Early last summer, we reported on Viejas coming back bigger and better than ever with a revamped summer concert series. After seven years away, the Alpine casino booked George Thorogood, Reel Big Fish, Jim Gaffigan and Martina McBride to break in their new 52,000 square-foot outdoor venue. And this year promises to be even better.
Money, who performs on Aug. 10, is best known for hits like "Baby Hold On" and "Two Tickets to Paradise," which garnered him a number of platinum albums. The last time Money played San Diego was in 2013 at the Belly Up, so he's long overdue for paying America's Finest City a visit. Three Dog Night, who introduced audiences to some of the best songwriters of all time, played the San Diego County Fair in 2015?
If you're not into soft rock, there might just be something else that appeals to you at this year's summer concert series. Country singer Wynonna Judd is set to perform on June 29, and comedians Jeff Dunham and Jeff Foxworthy will take the stage in June and August, respectively. Closing it out is Los Tigres del Norte, a Norteno group from San Jose with a slew of Grammy Awards.
"We are excited to get this party started and continue our position as San Diego's entertainment leader, and as a proud member of the community, we will be donating $1 for every ticket sold to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation," said Robert Welch, Jr., the chairman of the Viejas band of Kumeyaay Indians, in a news release.
