Vampire Slayer Drops Mixtape

Mexicali's Vampire Slayer sets out to hypnotize you to sleep with new mixtape.

If you've ever wondered about Mexicali's music scene, put Vampire Slayer on your radar. The city, like Tijuana and Tecate, is a neighbor to San Diego. It's about a two hour drive from San Diego, east of Tecate, with a thriving metal, punk and industrial music scene.

When Valentin Torres departed from the now-defunct dance-pop band Maniqui Lazer, he set out to create his own sound with Vampire Slayer. According to his label  Indian Gold Records, the new project has Torres "aiming his digital and analog ammo toward a more personal terrain ....”

In experimental fashion, Torres produced his Dimensions mixtape, and it's a break from the dance music he used to make. Dimensions is 83 minutes of instrumental industrial cosmic sounds. He explains the source of inspiration was to combat his nights of sleeplessness.

“This mixtape was made in the twilight of Oct. 24,” he told us. “This selection is the soundtrack to most of my nights of insomnia as I try to trick my mind into some necessary sleep.” Listen to  it here.

Torres will bring his hypnotic sounds to San Diego this month. He said, “We're planning an Indian Gold Records showcase but still don't have the exact date.”
