Try a Taste of the NFL

San Diego chef selected as Chargers representative at Super Bowl tasting event

While the Chargers aren’t heading to the Super Bowl this year, San Diego is still sending local talent to New Orleans.

Chef Jonathan Hale, who mans the knives at the divine Prado in Balboa Park, will travel to Louisiana in February to face off against cooks from across the country for a food-based Super Bowl event.

Here’s what happens: The NFL selects 32 chefs that represent their city’s football team to participate in a serious foodie experience. The event, called Party with a Purpose, raises money and awareness for hunger issues and benefits local Feeding American affiliates, including the San Diego Food Bank.

Hale won’t be alone in New Orleans. He’s teaming up with former Chargers tight end and Pro Football Hall of Fame inductee, Kellen Winslow Sr., to cook creative San Diego-inspired dishes.

If you want to try some of the food Hale’s cooking in New Orleans, go to the Prado before Feb. 10 and ask for the Taste of NFL Dinner menu. There, you’ll find a three-course menu featuring spicy calamari fries and beer braised short rib.

Plus, you get to dine with a purpose when you order from the Taste of NFL. Every time someone orders from the special menu, The Prado will donate $3 to the San Diego Food Bank.
