Good place to start your weekend music: Southern Culture on the Skids and Secret Samurai rock the Casbah; Russ Rankin (Good Riddance) headlines at Soda Bar; Still Ill (the Smiths tribute), Stones n’ Roses, Foasis & Pant Britpop Karaoke take over the Merrow; Cobra Hears & Blk Owl Unplugged features Jeremiah BZ (the Silent Comedy), Blaise Christopher Guld, Blake Byers, Ray Aguilar, Bidi Cobra and Gil Ortega at the Hideout. At the Whistle Stop, F---ing in the Bushes has your fix of Brit pop, with DJs Rob Moran and Daniel Sant; Kissy Sell Out takes over Bang Bang; the Bass Quake four-year anniversary lifts off with ChrisB., Cool Breeze, Osal8, Squama and Divinity Music is at Winstons; and HeRobust is at Bassmnt.

On Saturday, Dive Day Club features TJR at Harrah’s Resort Southern California; Day 1 of the Bujwah Bonanza is at Til-Two; and the Sherman Heights Music Festival kicks off at noon. Elsewhere,‘80s vs. ‘90s takes over the Whistle Stop, with DJs Gabe Vega and Saul; Neon Beat, featuring the best and worst of the ‘80s, is at Bar Pink; LA duo Casino Gold rocks Bang Bang; Maystar’s Fashion Whore bash is at U-31; and Joachim Garraud is at Bassmnt. For your live music fix, Jessica Lea Mayfield, Israel Nash and the Midnight Pine play at the Casbah; Dr. Know headline at Soda Bar; and Shark Blood, Christ Killer, Western Midwest and Throne are at the Hideout.

On Sunday, two pool parties for you to check out: Intervention with Afrojack is at the Hard Rock Hotel; and the Industry Bastards Summer Launch at the Hotel Palomar features Prayers, and DJs Eric Roommate and David Afterlife. There’s also Day 2 of Bujwah Bonanza at Til-Two, which goes into the late-night hours. Plus, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Brett Dennen, SOJA and Trevor Hall take over the Cal Coast Credit Open Air Theater; and the Milk Carton Kids and Tom Brosseau play a sold-out show at the Belly Up.
