A sailboat was pulverized against the rocks in Sunset Cliffs overnight.
The boat had been anchored in a kelp bed overnight nearby. Investigators said the boat's owner, Joel Gallagher, told them he swam in after anchoring the boat, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
By 6:15 a.m., however, the boat was on the rocks near Santa Cruz Avenue. By 8:30 a.m., all that was left was debris.
The Coast Guard is investigating the incident. Gallagher will have to pay to clean up the mess, according to officials.
