The Fair is Here, the Fair is Here!

Part of the fun of coming to the fair is to revisit the rides you’ve been going on for years and eat the sweet and salty foods you’ve been enjoying since you were a kid.  However, the San Diego county fair in Del Mar is offering something new to San Diegans this year, while still holding strong to their old ways.

Come rock out to the new Music Mania Theme Exhibit where fair-goers turned rock stars can test their knowledge of music, admire the Grammy Album of the Year wall, record their own song and take it home, relive the Woodstock era, and be a Guitar Hero.  Also, be sure to check out Musicapalooza and vote for your favorite of the 12 bands and 19 singers finalists who are competing to win $25,000!

If being the rock star isn’t your thing, check out the entertainment and events schedule to see when various musicians are scheduled to perform such as: tribute bands to Led Zeppelin, Journey, Johnny Cash, Coldplay, Dave Matthews Band, The Doors, and No Doubt or “No Duh”.  Accompanying these tributes on the main stage are real deals such as: Melissa Etheridge, Bret Michaels, former American Idol competitors David Cook and Archuleta, Switchfoot, KC and the Sunshine Band, and a Kelly Clarkson concert the last day of the fair.

Other entertainment being offered this year are extreme sports such as monster trucks, transformers and antique car races, a Demolition Derby, California’s strongest man, pro wrestling, Purina Incredible dog challenge, horse shows, MTV 3’s Latin Battle of the Bands, and “Taste of the Fair” on Tuesdays!

While you're checking out all the new attractions, don’t forget about the annual flower and garden show, the animal exhibits, and, of course, the rides and games.

Most rides require three to six coupons and if you’re a die-hard ride fanatic, the package of 77 tickets for $50 (65 cents each) might be worth your money.  For discounts on ticket packages, visit ticketmaster that will save you up to 43 percent on admission and tickets.  Or if you plan on being a regular guest at the fair this year, make sure to check out the season pass, costing a mere $22 for all 22 days— $1 a day for a $286 value.

The San Diego county fair will be running from June 12-July 5, but check out the fair’s calendar of major events to see the days the fair is closed.
