And They're Off…

The Del Mar Thoroughbred Club announces its inaugural fall concert season

Yes, the horses are still running during the summer season at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club (DMTC), but track officials are announcing two of the acts slated to perform during the inaugural fall season of the site where the surf meets the turf.

Music fans who were already able to see big names like Jurassic 5 and the Counting Crows this summer can start marking up their autumn calendars with concerts slated for the Bing Crosby Season, which will run from Nov. 7-30. In addition to EDM superstar Steve Aoki (Aug. 29) and reggae icon Ziggy Marley (Aug. 31) -- attendees will now also be able to look forward to the red-hot Iration, who will bring their infectious mix of reggae, dub and rock to Del Mar for Reggae Fest on Nov. 15.

And to prove they’re no one trick pony, the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club also announced that alt-rock radio staple Cake will perform on Nov. 29! With a swift one-two punch, the track has us already itching for the holidays.

To kick off their first-ever fall season, the DMTC will host a fabulous Gatsby-style Opening Day party on Friday, Nov. 7. Featuring an "Old Hollywood Fashion Contest," it's sure to draw the classiest and swankiest celebrities and fans in their finest fall threads. And that's just the beginning: For the entire month of November, the track will feature elite Thoroughbred racing, VIP events, as well as  many other special concert performances still to be announced.

Iration originally formed in 2004 in Isla Vista, Calif., where the band (singer/guitarist Micah Pueschel, keyboardist Cayson Peterson, drummer Joseph Dickens, bassist Adam Taylor and engineer Joseph King) started out by playing mostly reggae covers. They released their debut EP, "New Roots," in 2006, and, after building a solid fan base through steady touring and incredible live performances, they embarked on their first national tour in 2008 with San Diego act Pepper. With the release of their sophomore album, 2010's "Time Bomb," Iration topped the Billboard Reggae Albums chart. Their latest album, "Automatic," dropped last year to worldwide critical acclaim. The group is scheduled to play with several other big-name reggae bands during the DMTC’s Reggae Fest, so Del Mar will definitely the place to be on Nov. 15.

With a stable of hits on constant radio rotation, the Sacramento-based alt-rock quintet Cake need no real introduction. Music fans know the unmistakable deadpan delivery of lead singer John McCrea, and the eclectic mix of spaghetti Western, mariachi, funk and rock styles. Massively popular songs like "The Distance," "Short Skirt/Long Jacket," "Never There" and their contagious cover of Gloria Gaynor’s "I Will Survive" always seem to be the perfect marriage of humor, horns and groove. Concertgoers will certainly be in for this post-Thanksgiving treat come Nov. 29.
