There are so many great shows happening over the next several days. Some are part of the San Diego Music Thing, the annual two-day music and media conference. You can check out the complete schedule here and plan accordingly (also, refer to our 10 must-see picks here). I’ll be highlighting several of those shows in the Friday and Saturday listings.
Some of the shows on my radar as part of the SDMT Friday: Liars, Destruction Unit & Some Ember take over the North Park Theater; Dengue Fever, Barcelona, the Moth & the Flame, and Dr. Seahorse are at Soda Bar; Deap Vally, Wild Wild Wets, Mystic Braves, Black Taxi and Schitzophonics are at the Casbah; Slaughter & the Dogs headline at Til-Two; the Midnight Pine play at the Irenic: Little Dove will be with the Smart Brothers, Bushwalla, the Blues & Greys and Haunted Summer at the Merrow; Dead Feather Moon, Queen Caveat, Deadly Birds and more at U-31; Glass Spells, Amigo and Smoke Season are at Brick By Brick; and Earth, King Dude, Author & Punisher and Soft Lions are at the Hideout. Other events include Rock the Boat, supporting Surf Aid; and Metalachi with Godspeed McQueen at the Belly Up.
Start off your Saturday with the South Bay Pride Art & Music Festival at Bayfront Park; the 91x Next Big Thing Stage as part of the San Diego Music Thing features Meg Myers, the Griswolds and Cults; the Zeros, Mini Mansions, Low Volts and Neighbors to the North take over Bar Pink; Ilya, Stewardess and Champ play at the Office; Moving Units, Fenech Soler, Torches and Hills Like Elephants perform at the Hideout; the Hood Internet, Parker and the Numberman and Mystery Cave are at the Merrow; the San Diego Breast Cancer Fundraiser is at Fluxx; and the Johnny Deadly Trio takes over Hooley’s. On the dance tip, join me for Club Sabbat at Numb3rs, along with DJs Severin and Vaughn Avakian; Booty Bassment takes over the Whistle Stop with DJs Dimitri and Rob; and Dela Moontribe, Ubiquitous, Ashley Devore and Sarah Cranberry are at the Kava Lounge.
On Sunday Intervention at the Hard Rock Hotel features Sidney Samson; and the Mad Decent Block Party -- with Cashmere Cat, Diplo, Flosstradamus, Laidback Luke and others-- takes over the East Village. Later that night you can check out Inspired and the Sleep, Justin Froese and Oliver Trolley at the Belly Up; Owen Pallett, Avi Buffalo and Foxes In Fiction hit the Casbah; and KiWi Time and Big Bad Buffalo are at Lestat’s.
Have a great weekend and I’ll see you on the dance floor!
