The fledgling economy has expectantly seen the death of handfuls of restaurants that were mainstays at the annual Taste of Hillcrest, although it has also ushered in newcomers that are either financially fit or passionate enough to take gambles in their kitchen enterprises.
Now in its 11th year, Taste of Hillcrest showcases the neighborhood's ever-evolving culinary scene and is holding strong with 50-plus restaurants taking part from noon to 4 P.M., this Saturday. Tickets are $30 in advance, and $35 on site in the Rite Aid parking lot at Fifth and Robinson.
