Grizzly Bear Fave Sure Sure Find Unlikely Success

LA's Sure Sure make their mark on the indie streaming market with help from Grizzly Bear's Ed Droste

If you're lucky, you find some success in the music industry. If you're really lucky, you get to see your friends find some as well.

LA's Sure Sure have quickly made their mark on the indie streaming market as of late, with some added help from Grizzly Bear's Ed Droste, who has been following them for some time now, tweeting at them from their shows and adding them to his favorite songs of 2017 playlist.

The "left-field pop band" is led by Chris Beachy and Charlie Glick, who, incidentally, were my classmates at Stanford University.

"Chris and I have been doing a lot of tutoring. I’ve been doing a lot of college essays," Glick told me over the phone last week, as we bonded over our similar post-graduate trajectories (or lack thereof).

You can listen to one of Sure Sure's many catchy singles below.

Sure Sure are currently on the road with Hippo Campus, and they'll be performing at House of Blues on Jan. 25. Though they've already mastered the singles game, they're excited about their new, self-titled album, which will no doubt be available for purchase at their merch table on Thursday.

"Artistically, we always wanted to put out an album, but we still sort of wonder, 'Is this too soon for an album?'" Beachy said.

Considering their star is rising and rising fast, I'd say it's just about the perfect time.

So, sure, sure, maybe Glick, Beachy and I haven't made billions developing the latest Snapchat or climbing the ranks of Facebook, but at least we're doing what we love and getting better at it every day.

Sure Sure support Hippo Campus at House of Blues San Diego on Thursday, Jan. 25. Get tickets here.
