Lakers G Farmar opts for surgery

Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Los Angeles Lakers guard Jordan Farmar underwent successful surgery Wednesday to repair the torn lateral meniscus in his left knee.

The 30-minute procedure was performed by Dr. Clarence Shields of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Group and Farmar is expected to be sidelined approximately eight weeks.

The third-year pro suffered the injury during Friday's 89-87 loss to the Miami Heat. Farmar was then examined by two doctors on Monday and both recommended that the 6-foot-2, 180-pound guard undergo surgery.

Farmar is averaging 7.9 points and 2.4 assists in 25 games this season for the Pacific Division-leading Lakers.
