Spanish Day-The Flamenco Rock Opera

After selling out their 2006 tour, the Seville-based, seven-member Arte y Pureza Flamenco Company has returned with the much-anticipated show, Spanish Day-the Flamenco Rock Opera, which debuts this Saturday, July 25 at 8:00 p.m. at the Garfield Theatre at 4126 Executive Drive in La Jolla.

Music for Spanish Day will be performed by San Diego’s own flamenco rock band, Sir Sultry. The five-member band mixes the genres of rock, flamenco, blues, jazz, bolero, soul, classical, and calypso to make for one unforgettable experience. Calvin and Hobbes comic strip author Bill Watterson has also created a unique collection of woodcut drawings depicting the characters of Spanish Day.

This rock opera tells the story of Michael Miller who escapes to Spain and discovers his passion for the exotic world of the Gypsy dance, Flamenco. San Diego resident and Arte y Pureza creator, Ethan Margolis, produced Spanish Day in order to “demonstrate the beauty and importance of  culture and ethnicity…as we look upon two musical worlds thousands of miles apart.”
