The San Diego Air & Space Museum is giving kids a chance to meet a real-life astronaut during their 9th annual Space Day celebration on May 12.
The event launches at 10 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m. It’s free for children 17 and under who are accompanied by an adult.
Space Day will feature all sorts of hands-on demonstrations, giveaways and activities with local and national space experts. Kids will get to drive a Mars Rover vehicle, build and fly a paper rocket and design their own space patch.
The out-of-this-world highlight: Kids will have an opportunity to meet local astronaut Woody Spring, whose spacewalks from the space shuttle helped prepare for the construction of the International Space Station.
Woody will share stories of his dynamic space career.
Other presenters invited to the event include NASA, Sally Ride Science, San Diego Space Society and the San Diego Astronomy Association, among many others.
The Museum's Space Galleries will also be open for viewing throughout the event, showcasing items such as a flown Apollo spacecraft, moon rocks and space suits.
