Sounds Like San Diego: May 29

Lauren Ruth Ward headlines Soda Bar Tuesday -- and should be on your radar

Coming off of a holiday weekend can be daunting. Take a deep breath. Realize the next weekend will be here before you know it. And in the meantime, find some comfort in the awesome music always happening in San Diego. Tonight, you might consider heading to Soda Bar for singer-songwriter Lauren Ruth Ward. The musician has a raspy vocal delivery, with glimmers of rock and pop, with deeply personal lyrics that feel confessional and her way of declaring who she is and where she wants to be in the world. She's all-around awesome and this promises to be a great show (read the SoundDiego interview with her here). Meanwhile Tim Pyles is pulling double duty, with Dark Alley Dogs heading a local lineup at the Casbah and the Colour Monday leading his showcase at the Merrow. For your Latinx vibes, check out Making Movies with Alex Cuba at the House of Blues' Voodoo Room; and flamenco and bossa nova pianist Chano Dominguez performs at the Scripps Ranch Institute in La Jolla. If you can get out early, head to the Office, where locals will cheer on the Spice Pistols who recently auditioned for "America's Got Talent." I can only guess what the judges thought of them.
