Sounds Like San Diego: March 28

Lestat's West hosts its "last show probably maybe" Wednesday with a who's who of local performers

Gentrification is a curse to many, but the hands of change cannot be stopped. Sadly, this means old neighborhoods become so expensive that long-time residents and businesses alike can't always sustain. Add to that the short attention spans of concertgoers who'd rather talk and text than pay a cover and quietly listen to music -- and it feels inevitable that the changes in Normal Heights and its demographics has made the owner of Lestat's rethink the use of his space as a music venue. While tonight isn't actually the "last show ever" (there are actually others booked at least throughout the week), tonight is going to be a special night with many of the artists who've graced the Lestat's stage over the years, including Gregory Page, for whom the stage is named. The show is cheap, too, so come say goodbye, hug it out, thank Louis Brazier for giving his heart and soul to the space, and maybe enough outpouring could convince the owner that shutting it down would be a total loss for the neighborhood and the music community at large. Around town, SISU plays Casbah, George Clinton is back at House of Blues, country-folk duo Michigan Rattlers play Soda Bar, and the Schizophonics Soul Revue heads north to the Belly Up.
