I wasn't one of the cool kids who caught the White Stripes in their very early days playing at the Casbah, but a handful of years ago, while at SxSW in Austin, Texas, the word on the street was that Jack White was playing a show. There was a crazy line, but somehow Tim Pyles wrangled me into a group with a record label rep, and we were quickly escorted in, jumping the line and feeling super cool. Besides doing shots of Fireball with Bill Murray and seeing actor and comedian Jason Sudeikis and Shins singer, James Mercer, we carefully honored their no-photos policy and watched both sets, one with an all-female band and the other with his other band. I have to say it was one of the most epic shows I've ever been privy to. Jack White has become a legend in indie circles, but also for his dedication to music preservation and playing with blues and rock legends and getting their music recorded while they're still on this earth. He's a mysterious and certainly eccentric dude, but he has some great jams that you'll most certainly hear tonight should you catch his show at Viejas Arena.
