Sounds Like San Diego: August 15

The Who's Roger Daltrey headlines Embarcadero Marina Park South Wednesday

It was Aug. 14, 1971, when the Who released "Who's Next?," their fifth studio album and widely believed to be the band's best and most classic record. Tonight, nearly 47 years to the day, Roger Daltrey performs live in San Diego at Embarcadero Marina Park South. Some might regard these tours as a money grab or a victory lap, but the fans turn out for the nostalgia, to remember where they were in 1971 or in the subsequent decades after being introduced to the tunes, and you can't blame them for wanting to hold on to the past. Around San Diego, Japanese experimental band Boris return to the Casbah as they do almost every year for one night only; Austin's Summer Salt play at the Irenic; and my friends in Tape Heads play the Belly Up. For a super special night, head to the Merrow, where a tribute night in memory of Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison has been organized. The Scottish artist took his own life in May of this year, and proceeds from this event will go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
