I used to have this neighbor. He was pretty cool, liked good beer and good music so he was just fine with me. But I remember when he first discovered the Avett Brothers. He was out of control. He loved them with every fiber of his being, couldn't stop talking about them, would travel to see them in distant locales, and almost became intolerable because every conversation would somehow end with the Avett Brothers as the subject. I mean, I get it. It's awesome when something clicks, and you get to see a band grow from baby band to mad touring band playing the Civic Theatre, but it also breaks your heart a little that you won't ever see them in those tiny, intimate venues again. Still, all the love to them and their big show tonight. Meanwhile, Steve Earle & the Dukes are playing the Belly Up tonight, Sam Hunt is at Mattress Firm Amphitheatre, and Daedelus plays Space. For a '90s boy-band throwback, catch O-Town at Music Box. Of course, my heart is local, so I'm looking forward to seeing Jesse LaMonaca headline the Casbah for the first time in ages. It will be especially interesting because the poor kid broke his hand and will have to trust his band to pick up his instrumental duties while he does what he does best -- sing his heart out.
