The powerful 1-2 punch of an Alaskan storm is over, but some schools are still closed because of the white blanket covering San Diego's mountains.

The powerful winterlike storm also left behind 1-2 inches of rain along the coast and valleys and 6 to 8 inches in the mountains.
The stormy weather brought a thick layer of snow to Julian, where at least 1 foot of snow covered the tourist town, making for dangerous driving conditions. Cchain controls were in effect nearly all day on Wednesday and still are in some areas.
Despite the slick roads, some drivers still made their way to Julian. Julian General Store owner Mary Keeper welcomes the snow even though her truck got stuck in it.
"It's aggravating," Keefer said, adding that she knows snow brings more business to Julian.
"And we need it, we really need it,"she said.
Schools were closed Wednesday in Julian and classes were also canceled Thursday as well. There's still no word on whether students at the Mountain Empire School District will be told to remain home Thursday, as they were Wednesday.
The snow prompted officials with the El Centro CHP office to shut down the westbound I-8 at Mountain Springs Road, east of Jacumba, due to snow and ice, on Wednesday morning. As of 4:30 a.m. Thursday, though, there are no restrictions on travel on I-8.
Elsewhere around the county, chains are required on the Sunrise Highway from Old Hwy 80 to state Route 79.
On Mount Laguna, 10 to 12 inches fell as of 3 p.m. on Wednesday. Watch video. Ten inches of snow were reported on Palomar Mountain, where snow fell at 4,000 feet.
Drivers ran into street flooding along the coasts in Pacific Beach, in Mission Valley and near the Sweetwater Reservoir Wednesday. Watch video from all around the county.
Floodwaters rose so quickly in the Tijuana River Valley that horse owners were caught off guard. Three horses drowned stuck in their stalls. Dozens of other horses were rescued. Read article on horse rescue.
San Diego police advise 5300 Mission Center Road between Camino de la Reina and Hazard Center Road is closed in both directions due to flooding Wednesday evening, as was Fashion Valley Road
Other road closures Wednesday afternoon include: Quarry Road dip in Spring Valley, Route 37 in Borrego and SR 2 between Highway 78 and Highway 79 due to an accident involving two big-rigs. Hunter Street is closed between Raymond & Kelly in Ramona along with Magnolia Street between State Route 78 and Magnolia Heights and Pile Street between Black Canyon and Magnolia and Orange.
In San Marcos, Country Club Dip is closed in Harmony Grove due to flooding. In Valley Center, Cole Grade is closed at the dip.
Forecasters said they expect Thursday morning to be cloudy but dry, with partly sunny skies in the afternoon. Another storm is forecast to hit the area on Monday.
