SD Music Thing Hosts Free Publicity Panel

San Diego Music Thing tackles Publicity & Social Media 101 at Lestat's West

Who turns down free tickets? Well, no one, if you know what's good for you.

On Saturday, Oct. 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the fourth -- and, from what we can tell, final -- San Diego Music Thing panel of the year will be tackling Publicity & Social Media 101 at Lestat's West (3341 Adams Ave.). Why? Because "You are a needle in a haystack, [sic] one click is not enough," according to the event description.

Like it or not, marketing is half -- if not more -- of the battle when it comes to getting your music out there and into the right ears. So, when the San Diego Music Foundation sponsors a free panel on the topic, you go -- especially when the likes of Soda Bar co-owner, Cults drummer and Thrill Me Records label head Cory Stier; Redwoods image maker Marissa Mortati; Fly PR's Ilka Pardinas; and the San Diego Union-Tribune's George Varga are imparting decades upon decades of knowledge to you about the music business.

Past panels this year have included a Sept. 22 Booking & Touring event with Swami Records, Hot Snakes and Drive Like Jehu guru "Swami" John Reis, an Aug. 25 music publishing info session and a June 9 sync licensing rundown.

It's a new look for San Diego Music Thing, which recently shifted to the one-off, month-by-month approach after years of hosting a SxSW style music festival and music conference. While it's a bit more intimate now, it's also free and the focus is all on getting your band ready for one of the most cutthroat industries out there.

Get your free tickets here for the Publicity & Social Media 101 San Diego Music Thing panel at Lestat's West on Saturday, Oct. 27.
