Sara Watkins Sets Sights on North County

The famed fiddler returns home for a long-awaited August show

Last year, we wallowed in disappointment when I'm With Her (an Americana supergroup comprised of Sarah Jarosz, Aoife O'Donovan and Sara Watkins) announced an extensive world tour -- without a San Diego date on the itinerary.

While the trio makes the festival rounds sporadically throughout the rest of 2019, Watkins -- who grew up in Vista before co-founding Nickel Creek with brother Sean Watkins and Chris Thile -- returns home for a just-announced show in North County.

The Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, fiddler and multi-instrumentalist makes her way to the Bernardo Winery (13330 Paseo del Verano, Rancho Bernardo) on Sunday, Aug. 25, as part of the Poway OnStage Summer Concert Series.

The show, which follows the July 1 release of Watkins' critically acclaimed third solo studio album "Young in All the Wrong Ways," will be a seated performance with chairs provided for concert-goers.

The new record is a slight (and welcome) departure for Watkins’ audience. American Songwriter recently raved: "Fans know anything Watkins touches will reflect the class, talent and sophistication she has shown on her previous projects. And even if this generally melancholy collection takes a few spins to sink in, Watkins has delivered a deeply personal and moving album infused with maturity and unflinching truth in both its lyrics and overall approach."

General admission tickets to the Aug. 25 show are on sale now at PowayOnStage.org and are $45 each. A VIP table of four (includes wine and charcuterie board) is $260. For more information, visit the website.
