Sip and Savor New Restaurants

Nosh on funky foods at these new eateries

With fall just around the corner, it’s time to break out of the summer spots and cozy up at a new restaurant.

Thankfully, there’s plenty of places to try...

The Commons

901 4th Ave. - Downtown
Taking over what was formerly known as Lincoln Room, The Commons has some presidential shoes to fill. The renovated space (sans penny counter top and wooden walls) takes advantage of San Diego’s sunny skies with floor-to-ceiling windows and bright décor.

They’re backed by investor Chargers and cornerback Quentin Jammer, so their devotion to the Bolts will certainly mean a new place to watch Sunday football. In fact, as it’s the opening weekend, they’re offering breakfast burritos during the game – it doesn’t get more San Diego than that.

Offbeat Brewing Co.

1223 Pacific Oaks Place, Suite 101 - Escondido
Alright, technically it’s not a restaurant but it looks like Stone Brewing Co. might have a little competition across the street. Brewmaster Tom Garcia used to supervise the cellar at the behemoth Escondido brewery, but then decided to open up his own space only a few blocks away and calling it Offbeat Brewing Co.

What differentiates Offbeat Brewing from the many other breweries in town is its dedication to local artists, which is highlighted by the display of creative pieces throughout the tasting room. There’s even a mural devoted to all things “offbeat” – and it’s sure nice to look at while sipping on a 16-ounce craft beer.

Luce Bar & Kitchen
1959 Morena Blvd. - Bay Park
Tucked away in Bay Park is a new gastropub bound to have people ordering more than one menu item. Luce Bar & Kitchen combines California produce with and a “gastroteca” style Italian menu. The must try? Escargot pizza.

The industrial space may feel like it’s meant for downtown, but it’s a welcome look to the otherwise laid back neighborhood. It’s also a good place for a group, as more than a few tables have enough bar stools for a small crowd.
