Report: Cop Sues Cops, City

An Oceanside police officer who was accused of attacking a former girlfriend last summer is suing the Carlsbad and its city police, alleging, among other things, that the department gave “untrue details” to the media, according to a published report.
Lt. Shawn Murray is an 18-year veteran of the Oceanside Police Department. He was arrested last year but no charges were filed against him in connection with the case, the North County Times reported.  Murray also alleges in the suit that his home was searched without a warrant and that he was caused embarrassment and a possible loss in future earnings.
"The biggest problem is that this ruins his career," Laurence Haines, Murray's attorney, told the Times. "In a public forum, his reputation can never be fixed. However, it can be shown that he did nothing wrong."
Murray filed the suit on Nov. 18 in San Diego, the paper reported. A spokesman for the Carlsbad City Attorney’s office said the city had not yet been served with the suit.
