Pig Pilferers Headed to the Pokey

Two men who stole a $15,000 bronze pig statue from outside a Chula Vista restaurant are headed to jail.

Armando Cesena and Oren Hertz pleaded guilty to grand theft last month for snatching the bronze porker from outside Miguel's Cocina. Cesena was sentenced Tuesday to 270 days behind bars. Hertz received one year.

The judge also ordered both men to pay $455 to cover the cost of re-installing the statue.

The men were caught on surveillance video April 5 in front of the restaurant using a pickup to knock the 3-foot-tall pig off its base, then loading it onto the truck.

Prosecutors say one of the men eventually contacted the restaurant and dumped the pig at a local library.
