The Goos formed in the mid-1980s in Buffalo, New York -- and were founded by guitarist/vocalist Johnny Rzeznik, bassist/vocalist Robby Takac (pictured) and former drummer George Tutuska.

Fun fact: They got their name from a "True Detective" ad for a toy called a Goo Goo Doll.

In an old interview, Rzeznik seemingly regretted the band's name: "We were young and we were a garage band not trying to get a deal. We had a gig that night and needed a name. It's the best we came up with, and for some reason it stuck. If I had five more minutes, I definitely would have picked a better name."

Takac (pictured) was originally the lead singer for the group. By the time they released their third album, 1990's "Hold Me Up" though, Rzeznik was featured as the singer on five tracks. From then on, he'd end up singing most of the band's songs.

The group achieved mainstream success for the first time with their 1995 album, "A Boy Named Goo" -- featuring the huge hit single "Name."

Soon thereafter, Rzeznik was approached to write a song for the soundtrack to the "City of Angels" film. He ended up writing "Iris" -- which would go on to become the band's biggest hit to date.

In 1998, the band released a blockbuster follow-up album to "A Boy Named Goo" titled "Dizzy Up the Girl" -- including "Iris" as well as four other top 10 hits: "Broadway," "Slide," "Black Balloon" and "Dizzy."

In May, they announced their new album will be titled "Miracle Pill" and its title track is due out on June 21! Can't wait to hear new Goo music and see 'em in San Diego again (hopefully) soon!
