If you were thinking your Saturday morning needed more worms, look no further.

The Solana Center is offering a free Master Composter workshop from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Otto Center in Balboa Park for people looking to learn the art of composting. The Otto Center is located one block south of the main entrance to the San Diego Zoo. Master composters from the Solana Center for Environmental Innovation will be teaching people how to create rich garden soil, save water, and reduce trash at the landfill by recycling their kitchen scraps and garden materials.

The courses have been offered since 1994 and provide in-depth training in composting techniques from local experts, according to the Solana Center Web site. Master Composters come from all walks of life and their projects reflect their diversity of background and experience.

If you can’t make it this weekend, there will be another workshop on Saturday, January 23 in Encinitas.
