Old Town Celebrates Mark Twain with ‘TwainFest'

The free festival on Aug. 18 will honor Twain and other popular 19th century writers

Are you a big fan of Mark Twain and other famous scribes from the 19th century? If so, you might want to head to Old Town San Diego Saturday for a little something called “TwainFest.”

A free festival celebrating Twain and other popular 19th century writers will be held in the center of Old Town from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., near the intersection of Wallace Street and Calhoun Street.

The event is being hosted by Write Out Loud and will include live music, readings by professional actors, puppet shows and other festive, family-friendly activities all centered around Twain.

If that isn’t enough Twain for the brain, a 14-foot puppet in Twain’s likeness will be roaming the event.

Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer would approve.
