Nothing Bundt the Cake

A San Diego sweet treat is causing quite a stir with a new twist on an old favorite.

Nothing Bundt Cakes makes nothing but -- surprise! -- bundt cakes. While that might sound boring to people who have only had Grandma’s old bundt cake, there is something special about what's going on at the Poway bakery.

Adorned with colorful flowers and thick petals of frosting that drip down the sides, Nothing Bundt Cakes are nothing but delicious. The cakes are offered in nine different flavors, everything from the Southern favorite Red Velvet cake to the decadent Pecan Praline. In February, the bakery is offering Lemon Raspberry as their flavor of the month.

Small-bundt cakes, dubbed “bundtlets,” are single-serving cakes that can be purchased for $3.99 each or $45 for a dozen. Eight-inch cakes cost between $18.50 and $29.50, depending on decoration and frosting choice. Ten-inch cakes are also available that serve up to 18 people and cost $28.50 to $39.50. For the most over-the-top cake lovers, tiered bundts are also available for $65.

Nothing Bundt Cakes is located at 12205 Scripps Poway Parkway, but they also ship cakes (except the tiered cake, which would topple over during the shipping process), which can be ordered at their Web site.

A San Marcos location will open this spring between March and April.
