New Water Playground Makes a Splash in East County

El Cajon water playground open to the public

The Hilton Head Park Expansion Project opens the first water playground in El Cajon.

Vice Chairwoman Dianne Jacob, local leaders and residents will gather Monday afternoon for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate phase two of the Hilton Head Park Project.

The park has expanded to include a ship-themed water playground with four interactive exercise stations, two covered pavilions, walking paths and new restrooms. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will begin on Monday, Oct. 27 at 3:30 p.m. at 16005 Hilton Head Road in El Cajon. After the ceremony, kids can be the first to play in the new water playground.

The project cost a total of around $1.6 million, funded mainly by a $1.2 million grant from Proposition 40, which helps communities develop and improve parks.
