Looks Like Peavy Won't Be a Cub

The Jake Peavy trade talks have collapsed, according to a published report.

"At the end of the day, we had to do what was best for the organization," Cubs general manager Jim Hendry  told ESPN. "I just felt like when I weighed the total value of the talent going out against the economics of what was coming in, it was in the best interests of our organization not to make this deal."

From some online discussion, this comes as no surprise to Padres fans.

So what’s the next step? Will the Padres trade Peavy or keep him on the roster for 2009? According to MLB.com, Towers said he will meet with team CEO Sandy Alderson on Monday and speak with Peavy's agent, Barry Axelrod, in the coming days to see where they go next.
