Local Pier to Get $1M in Repairs

A makeover of sorts is coming to a San Diego landmark, according to a published report.

The Imperial Beach pier will undergo a $1.2 million repair and maintenance project, set to begin next summer, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

The San Diego Unified Port District agreed to replace one of every five planks in the 1,500-foot long pier, following a routine inspection, the report said.  Port officials are in the design phase, with about 30 percent of it complete.

The port, which manages the city's tidelands and pier, also plans to replace three missing pilings torn loose from the pier and they will replace an aging sewer line that runs to the restrooms and Tin Fish restaurant, the paper reported.
