The album is based around the concept that a being not of this world chose Dr. Dog to transmit a handful of songs to the world on its behalf.

The album is actually a re-do of sorts, with Dr. Dog taking their first collection of songs (which were never released) and reworking them for this record.

Early on in Dr. Dog's career, My Morning Jacket invited the band on tour after a copy of "Toothbrush," one of their earliest releases, found its way into Jim James's hands after a show.

Formed by Quinlan in her senior year of high school, Hop Along eventually became a full band, with brother Mark Quinlan on drums.

It would be another seven years after Hop Along's debut record (when Quinlan was still rolling solo) before the band released "Get Disowned," its 2012 sophomore effort.
