Ice skating @ San Diego Ice Arena
Anytime during business hours
Beat the heat by lacing up some ice skates. Lucky for you, NBC 7 San Diego's deal program The Goods is offering up a deal for San Diego Ice Arena. For $15, you can get admission for three people, or for $20 receive admission for four. The best part? The deal includes the skating rental. Cool.

Dog Days of Summer

10 a.m., Cardiff-by-the-Sea Mainstreet
Is all the heat making your pooch pant? Then head up to the coast because Cardiff-by-the-Sea is hosting its annual Dog Days of Summer event. Chill out with your canine pal by participating in contests such as the cutest puppy or best dog trick.

BirdStock 2012
Noon to 4 p.m. at La Jolla Boulevard
When it's warm enough to issue a heat warning, it's time to retreat to the beach. The lovely seaside community is hosting a family-focused event blocks from the shoreline to benefit Bird Rock Elementary School. Food trucks will provide the fare and The Jones Revival Band will provide the tunes. Tickets are $15 at the door, $10 in advance.

Sunday, Aug. 12

noon, University Avenue in Hillcrest
It’s not every day you can splash around in a foam-filled bathtub. But at Hillcrest’s 28th annual CityFest celebration, you can escape the warm weather with the foam filled bathtub and a water slide. Stick around and grab some grub from one of the 250 vendors – including a thirst-quenching spirits garden.

Mission Bay Aquatic Center
8 a.m. on weekends, 1001 Santa Clara Pl.
The breeze at the bay will certainly be much cooler than inland San Diego. Head over to the Mission Bay Aquatic Center to try out some of their inexpensive rentals, including kayaks, sailboats, paddleboards and rowboats. You might not want to swim in the bay water, but the refreshing air will be enough to evade the sun’s hot rays. And of course, don’t forget your sunscreen.
