Jewel's Fixer Upper Movie

Jewel Kilcher ditches music for acting in an upcoming Hallmark original TV movie

"I'm a contractor -- it's my job to notice these things."

So says Jewel Kilcher rather dramatically in the trailer for the upcoming Hallmark Channel original movie, "Framed for Murder: A Fixer Upper Mystery" -- and while the film may not exactly be a Golden Globe contender (but hey, it could be), it's nice to have one of San Diego's biggest singer/songwriter exports back in front of the camera.

In the movie, Kilcher -- who famously got discovered in 1993 playing gigs at Java Joe's original location in Poway -- plays Shannon Hughes, an expert in Victorian home restoration and renovation, and the owner of a construction company in the quaint resort town of Lighthouse Cove in Pompano Beach, Florida.

According to the film's official website summary, "Through her renovations, [Hughes] will find clues to uncover the house's secret past and in turn become an unlikely sleuth to help crack these unsolved mysteries."

No word on what those mysteries are (but most likely involving a murder or two) and/or what's so special about the particular house she's been hired to restore -- but who's got time for nagging details when Jewel is on the case! Let the foolish games begin!

Colin Ferguson (star of cable TV classics like "The Opposite of Sex," "Because I Said So" and "Lake Placid 3") is on board as well, presumably as Kilcher's fellow sleuth -- and/or maybe an eventual love interest (it is a Hallmark movie, after all)?

Either way, come Sunday, Jan. 15, all shall be revealed when "Framed for Murder: A Fixer Upper Mystery" premieres at 9 p.m. on the Hallmark Channel.
