Sounds Like San Diego: May 21

U.K.'s Idles provide a breath of fresh rock n' roll air with Fontaines D.C. at the Belly Up Tuesday

There's a somewhat well-known music critic who always complains that there's no protest music from the youth of today. I think he's wrong, but particularly after you dig into a band like Idles, who are taking topics like toxic masculinity, Brexit, our current commander in chief, and sexism head on. Their show tonight at the Belly Up sold out some time ago, but I suspect they'll be touring often and wouldn't be surprised if they already have a bigger venue lined up for summer or fall. If you didn't get tickets, you're in luck because there are great options out there. Catching Geographer is always a treat and he returns to the Casbah while you can catch the instrumental dreamy lo-fi of Black Taffy at Soda Bar. It's Tiki Tuesday at Bar Pink with Alvino & the Dwells, or catch thrash metal act Claustrofobia at the Merrow.
