A new show at a North County art museum is making the case for "lowbrow art."
The work of nine artists -- including Mary Fleener, Scott Saw, Tim McCormick, Scrojo (Craig Haskett), Jason Sherry, Charles Glaubitz, Ron Wharton, Pamela Jaeger and Jen Trute -- is featured in the Lowbrow Art: Nine San Diego Pop Surrealists show.
The museum asked Encinitas art dealer Jerry Waddle to co-curate the show, along with Michael C. Gross.
"One of the criticisms I've had with art museums in the past is the fact that they tend to be a little elitist," Waddle told the North County Times. "A show like this is more forthcoming to people who aren't always interested in coming to a museum. This show bridges that gap."
