Halloween Alert!

Don’t wait until the 31st—the action starts tonight.

October is the hallowed month in which we celebrate Halloween, but you don’t have to wait until the 31st to get your ghoul on. There are a multitude of scary adventures happening all month, including this very night:

Food Not Brains ZombieWalk & Food Drive. Hundreds of the undead will don makeup and walk like organized zombies around the Gaslamp Quarter. The first 150 zombies that show up with canned food items (to benefit the San Diego Food Bank) will get passes to see a special screening of the Woody Harrelson movie “Zombieland.”

  • Two ZombieWalks are scheduled for tonight -- at 5:30 and 9 p.m. The shuffles begin in front of the Gaslamp Theater and will go up and down Fifth Avenue. Representatives from the Gaslamp Quarter Association will watch the slow-motion action from Henry’s Pub and give out tickets to this weekend’s Padres game
  • Scareventures: Located underground and below downtown’s Side Bar nightclub, this is the former site of Frightmare on Market and the Museum of Unnatural History. This pirate-themed attraction is open Wednesday through Sunday each week of October. There are weekend daytime shows that are kid-friendly; after 9 p.m. the scare is better suited for adults
  • Haunted Hotel: This longstanding downtown attraction has been open since Sept. 25, and runs all month (closed Monday and Tuesday). Have fun getting chased by darkly dressed demon doormen as you walk through a hotel that is definitely not five-star
  • House of 1,000 Spiders at the Davis House: This is a family-friendly tour of the oldest surviving structure in downtown. Halloween characters arrive early at the Davis House
