Governor Jerry Brown to Attend Funeral of Fallen SDPD Officer Jonathan ‘JD' De Guzman

Fallen San Diego Police officer Jonathan "JD" De Guzman, killed in the line of duty last week will be laid to rest on Thursday.

Governor Jerry Brown will attend the memorial service for Officer De Guzman in El Cajon on Friday.

The service will be held at 11 a.m. at Shadow Mountain Community Church on 2100 Greenfield Drive.

San Diego Police Department (SDPD) officer Jonathan "JD" De Guzman was shot and killed last Thursday. He was a 16-year veteran in the department and was assigned to the Gang Unit. De Guzman's partner, Wade Irwin, was left seriously wounded but is expected to survive. 

De Guzman is survived by his wife and two kids. 

On Wednesay, a Prayer of the Rosary will be performed at 6:30 p.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. A second day of viewing will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the same location. The viewing is open to the public.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4 for De Guzman, the San Diego Police Officers Association (SDPOA) announced. The Funeral Mass will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Members of the public are welcome to attend. 

Those wishing to pay their respects to Officer De Guzman and his family can attend.

A public memorial service on Friday is for law enforcement and community members. A procession will follow to Glen Abbey Memorial Park, at 3838 Bonita Road in Bonita. Interment will follow the memorial service.
