Getting Medieval in East Village

Looking for something different in Downtown’s East Village? Perhaps with a patio so you can enjoy the San Diego sunshine? Stroll on over to the east entrance of Petco Park where you will find Dragon’s Den, the newest addition in East Village. With an eclectic menu offering a great selection of Asian-inspired dishes and two fire pits in their dog friendly patio, Dragon’s Den is making it be known that they have arrived.

I started the evening off with an order of Dragon Balls and a Beef Brisket and Hoisin Green Onion Wrap. Both perfectly prepared and extremely delicious! Dragon Balls are Panko crusted deep-fried stuffed mushrooms with a spicy mayo, and are as good as they sound! The Beef Brisket and Hoisin Green Onion Wrap reminded me of a burrito, but with an Asian twist. It has the perfect amount of crunchiness from the tortilla, with a savory flavor hitting your palette as you bite into the brisket.

I followed my appetizers with a Hot Top Roll and a Dragon’s Den Sampler. Being a fan of spicy food, I’m partial towards jalapenos and the Hot Top Roll hit the spot. Not too spicy so it’s not enjoyable, but just enough to make your taste buds take notice. The Dragon’s Den Sampler was another home run consisting of Chicken Gyoza, Shrimp and Pork Wontons, Shrimp and Pork Siu Mai and Shrimp Ha Gau. The presentation was almost as good as the appetizer itself. My favorite was the Pork Siu Mai. Simply delicious is the best way to explain it!

For those who like to follow their meal with something sweet, you have to try the Honey-Sesame Glazed Banana a la Mode. Thanks to Dragon’s Den, I am going to stop making fried bananas, my signature dessert, which I thought was a culinary delight. Without the Honey-Sesame glaze, my version is simply a banana in a wonton wrapper. We all know that anything deep-fried is delicious, but this dessert is phenomenal. After enjoying the Hot Top Roll, the sweetness of the dessert was the perfect compliment. If they offered the glaze to go, I would buy it buy it by the barrel and pour it on everything!

If you are ever in the East Village or on your way to see the Padres take the field, do yourself a favor and take the time to visit Dragon’s Den. If you’re on a date, it’s even better, especially if you get a seat at one of the fire pits.
