Before gobbling down a large Thanksgiving meal, burn some calories for a good cause.
The annual Father Joe’s Village Village 5k run/walk through Balboa Park gets your blood pumping before the gluttonous holiday dinner.
The race has a new course this year, in addition to a raffle for a luxury motor home.
Winners from each age group will get a medal during the post-race event at Spreckels Organ Pavilion. And even if you’re not competitive there are plenty of rewards. Registration includes a commemorative T-shirt, a complimentary continental breakfast, a complimentary post-race beer garden and live entertainment.
“Proceeds from the Father Joe’s Villages Thanksgiving Day 5K represent a critical source of support for this organization’s programs,” said Sister Tricia Cruise of Father Joe’s Village. “These are programs that help homeless individuals regain their self-sufficiency—from children and families to adults and military veterans. Each registration truly is an investment in the future of San Diego.”
It’s a popular event – more than 10,000 people participated last year – so make sure to sign up early. Runners, walkers, wheelchairs and strollers are welcome in the race so it’s an event the whole family can participate in.
Signups cost $28-$40 depending on age group and online registration must be completed by Nov. 21. Day of registration begins at 6:30 a.m. and the race begins at 7:45 in the morning.
