Rex Ryan Looks Like Jets' New Head Coach, It's Just a Question of When

by Ryan Wilson

The consensus seems to be that Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan will be named the Jets' new head coach as soon as Baltimore's season ends, either Sunday night or in two weeks. There was speculation that once the Buccaneers dumped Jon Gruden, he immediately became a candidate to replace Eric Mangini. Nope.

As the New York Post's Brian Costello wrote Saturday, "Gruden does not fit the profile of what the Jets have been looking for ... [as] the team clearly favors hiring a first-time coach." And in Sunday's edition, Costello points out that the other coach high on the Jets' wish list -- Steve Spagnuolo -- has accepted the Rams job, which pretty much clears the way for Ryan.
