Everybody Loves a Parade

Children young and old turned out in droves for the Big Bay Balloon Parade on Monday.

This year's event kicked off at 9 a.m. on Harbor Diver at Cedar Street and wended its way down the Embarcadero to Seaport Village for the next 90 minutes. Crowds were sparse early, but the viewing spots filled up along the parade's route, as did the grandstands, where parade-goers paid $15 for prime viewing spots.

The giant helium balloons were out for the 18th time this year at the free event.

The annual parade coincides with the week the Holiday Bowl is played. That game is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday and features the Oklahoma State University Cowboys and the University of Oregon Ducks.
