Sounds Like San Diego: Jan. 29

Elton John brings his farewell tour through Pechanga Arena Tuesday

I've been fortunate to see Elton John exactly one time. It was a fluke really, at the last minute they opened up some stage side tickets so I got to take my mom, who pretty much cried the entire concert, as we enjoyed all the hits past and present -- though we were staring at his backside the entire night. Still, it is a magical experience, so anyone going tonight should be sure to read the Pechanga Arena website for all the specifics. There won't be an opener, he'll take the stage promptly at 8 p.m., but there are pretty strict rules about clear bags and what you're allowed to take into the arena. Around town, Casbah will be packed for Emo Nite, Russian Tremors headline Soda Bar, and Maxwell String Quartet of Glasgow -- named one of the best string quartets in Europe -- play La Jolla's Athenaeum.
