Celebs Kick Off Fleet Week

LL Cool J. showed his support for San Diego’s military community during a kickoff event for Fleet Week San Diego.

The hip-hop artist/actor spent more than an hour Saturday answering questions, signing autographs, and taking pictures with fans alongside actor Chris O’Donnell at the Big Bay Family Festival.

The two co-star in the television series "NCIS Los Angeles."

LL Cool J said he spent time at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton to prepare for an upcoming role. “The visit was great,” the actor said.

Marines offered insight into their warrior spirit. “Learning the mindset what it means to put your life on the line,” LL Cool J said as he described the experience. “It was pretty deep.”

The actors wrapped up their fleet week visit with a guided tour of the new San Diego based Littoral Combat Ship USS Freedom.

The event is just one of a number of events planned to honor San Diego's military. The annual Fleet Week San Diego will wrap up the weekend of Oct. 1-3 with the Miramar Air Show.
